1. Paint your roof white
Paint your roof white to send back those heat rays off your roof. Normally in cities like Karachi, we don’t do this as the roofs are only plastered and not painted.
However, if the roofs are painted white, the sun rays can get reflected back. This will cost you nothing more than a couple of buckets of paint depending on the area of the roof but will save you tons of electricity in the form of fans and air conditioners.
80% of the sun rays will get ricocheted back into the atmosphere because of the white paint.
2. Take advantage of water
Basins and buckets or other containers can come handy and be filled with water to soak your feet. Wet towels can have a cooling effect when worn on the shoulders or head. Take cool showers or baths, and consider using spray bottles filled with cold water for refreshing spritzes throughout the day.
The average adult human body is 50-65% water. Drink enough water throughout the day so that you get hydrated and the body does not run out of water.
3. Wear cotton
Cotton allows better air circulation, which helps in absorbing and removing body moisture caused by sweat. It therefore minimizes fungal breeding by keeping your body dry and cool.
Cotton is light in weight and in colour unless it is dyed. Being light-coloured will help the light to pass through instead of being absorbed and hence we will not feel the heat as much. If you wear loose clothes instead of tight fitting clothes, there will be ample of space for the air to pass through.
Cotton helps in bringing down the severity of any allergic reaction and is perfect for those who have sensitive skin. Synthetic fabrics on the other hand cause rashes, skin allergies and body odour as they tend to trap moisture.
